¡SOMBRA! A Celebration of Shade: Botanical Canopy

12' x 14' x 8' — Steel, Paint, Paracord
Commissioned by City of Phoenix and Bloomberg Philanthropies

Using over 10,000 feet of nylon parachute cord, Botanical Canopy is designed to resemble a colorful, abstracted plant and provide a whimsical, shade experience. Comprised of painted steel looms and woven surfaces using the French style of caning, these modular, leaf-like shade canopies will be woven with help from the community and engineered into position to combat the rays of the sun. Those walking underneath the colorful woven canopies will delight in the cooling shade while enjoying the dynamic light and shade patterns cast on the ground underneath. Commissioned by the City of Phoenix and Bloomberg Philanthropies a part of ¡SOMBRA! a celebration of shade.

Special Thanks to workshop volunteers and the student weavers of New School for the Arts and Academics.
